Hawai‘i Island Steel Guitar Festival

Kevin was born and raised in Detroit Michigan, but has been a resident of Hawai‘i for the last 26 years.

He became interested in learning Hawaiian music after his son Ethan started playing ukulele and slack key guitar. Looking at guitars online, he was intrigued by an old Hawaiian lap steel guitar for sale. He took a chance, bought the guitar and started looking for a teacher (Kumu).

Luckily the first school he found was Alan Akaka's Ke Kula Mele School of Hawaiian Music, and he has been studying with Kumu Alan Akaka ever since.
