Steel Guitar Exhibit, Sales, and Hands-On

The steel guitar exhibit featured several vintage steel guitars and instruments hand-crafted by local (Hawai‘i Island) luthiers Chris Stewart, Konabob Stoffer, and Woodley White.

Daniel Tremblay offered steel guitar hands-on experienes at various times throughout the festival. Festival guests were invited to try out the steel guitar under his guidance.

  • Linda Mentzer was in charge of the festival store. T-shirts and other steel guitar merchandise was available for purchase.
  • The store was set up in an area convenient for guests passing by.
  • Adjacent to the festival store was the steel guitar deminstration table where guests could learn more and try out the steel guitar under Daniel Tremblayʻs guidance.
  • The steel guitar exhibit was also set up in the same area. Several vintage and hand-crafted instruments were on display including this 1952 Fender Deluxe 6.
  • A vintage 1937 Richekbacher Silver Hawaiian. These metal-bodied instruments were often stuffed with newspaper to lessen the metallic sound.
  • A hand-crafted lap steel guitar made by Hawaiʻi Island luthier Woodley White.
  • A hand-crafted lap steel guitar made by steel guitarist and luthier Konabob Stoffer.
  • A vintage 1938 Epiphone Electar Model M lap steel guitar designed in art deco style.
  • A vintage 1935 Rickenbacher A-22 Frypan lap steel guitar. The guitar gets its name from its similarity to a frying pan.
  • A hand-crafted lap steel guiar made by Hawaiʻi Island luthier Chris Stewart.
  • An assortment of tone bars and slides.
  • The steel guitar exhibit table with Chris Stewart and Verdine Kong.
  • This is a guitar converted by Daniel Tremblay to be an acoustic steel guitar. Autographed by all festival performers, the guitar was up for auction with proceeds going to HIMELE. Maureen Clough won the auction.
  • Daniel gives interested youth some information about the steel guitar.
